Amateur at the Lens…

Today I went to an event held by/for boy scouts, girl scouts, and the public. It was the Lincoln Bicentennial Encampment (Spencer county, IN). It had all kinds of neat-o things and the event was HUGE :) If I remember correctly one of the guys said that there were over 4,500 registered boy scouts at the camp. Thats amazing! 

There were re-enactors from Abraham Lincoln’s time period *duh* which is always cool :) There were events going all day long, so rather than have to be certain places at certain times you could go hang out at one place and see the event any time of the day it seemed–I really liked that :) 

The only problem I had with the event was the complaining of the scouts! But when it is learned actions from troop leaders and parents how else are the scouts suppose to act right?

…anyways…on to the pictures! 

I finished up my classes on Wednesday and I’m looking forward for 2 weeks of no school :) Yes, 2 weeks because I am taking summer classes. 3 summer classes to be exact! That won’t be much fun, but I want to get school done and over with. I can’t wait till the weather is “normal” rather than the icky it has been lately :) The flowers are blooming and the trees are pretty, now if only it would stop raining for a day, and not be so windy as to blow all the leaves away everything would be all good :) 

Saturday is a Lincoln Bicentennial celebration in Spencer county Indiana, I really hope I get to go. It is suppose to be this massive huge event and I can’t wait!

Last weekend I went to Angel Mounds for an event that was pretty cool. If I remember correctly it was called Voices of the East. It was basically an indian camp. All the re-enactors were awesome. They seriously knew their stuff and were uber talkative. I like it when event people are genuinely passionate about what they do, it makes the even much more enjoyable :) I got some fairly decent pictures from the event. I used my Nikon D40, and I tried out my new Sony Cybershot. The cybershot I must say is an awesome little camera :) 

Last weekend was the anime convention I’ve gone to for the past 3 years. It seems to get smaller :O However I love it none the less. I took the DSLR camera, but lugging around a tripod was not my idea of fun, so i took mostly outside pictures.

You probably wonder why everyone and their brother seem to be signing up for Twitter lately. Well thats because its freaking amazing :) The best way to describe it would be its like Facebook status updates.  I like Twitter because I can put whatever 140 characters I want to tell people my mood, what I’m doing, or how much school has frazzled my brain. I’ve only had an account for a couple of days and I’m already addicted >_< As of writing I have 6 followers–not many, and quite frankly I only actually know 1 of them. Twitter is just a cool way to talk to random people. You don’t have to stay with a conversation if you don’t want to, or you can banter back and forth.

I’m gonna start putting more things about photography on mine, rather than just talk about random things :)

I went out today for a tiny bit…I was working on my self-portrait portfolio pictures and got sidetracked. ITS TOO PRETTY OUTSIDE TODAY! BTW…the self portraits, not going so well >_< lol oh wells I will show you some…they are bad, but I’ll show you :O First the flowers though lol

The self-portraits here, are more or less experimentations with focusing myself. As you can probably tell, I didn’t exactly do a too good of job on that. *cough* sucked at focusing in on the flowers too it seems :O

Again I’m gonna have to say….THANK YOU for reading :) I now have 2,000+ views on this and I’m more than happy. I’ve been quite busy with school work so I haven’t posted in awhile. Its close to the end of the semester and its crunch time >_< but its slowing down a tad bit since all the projects have now been assigned and we just have to work on them. I went through all my assignments and counted that I have 10 to do till the end of the semester…it was 12 earlier, but 2 of them I finished. In the works would be a 4 photograph portfolio for Intermediate Photography, which I have decided to do self-portraits. Self-portraits will be a challenge, I’m basically setting it up as an exploration of myself and my likes. I don’t actually have to be in the photograph, but I think in most of them I will be. Another project to do is a Photoshop based webpage. Shouldn’t be too hard right? Well…I can’t think of a layout >_< so that project is giving me some problems. In design I have an interesting assignment where I have to paint using 6 different color schemes and…blah…

Recently I went to a Renaissance Fair in Georgia. It was pretty awesome. The theme for the weekend was Pirates. THE PIRATES STOLE THE QUEEN’S CROWN :O ohhh nooo! lol……wanna see more? go here! And ironically I don’t have any pictures of pirates up *yet* anyways….
                                                               

Next weekend is the Middle Tennessee Anime Convention that I’ve gone to the past three years and I love it. :) So I’ll get some interesting pictures there and I’m excited about it :) all the cosplayers make me happy :) 

Despite all the freakish amounts of rain we have been getting (well where I live anyways) the flowers are attempting to bloom. I wish they spoke english because I would tell them to wait because right now–rainy season here in the midwest :O and they will get drowned :( Oh wells….

Ehhh mostly I was playing with aperture–which I do a lot :) 

I apparently just suck at anything that deals with film. I can’t seem to get film to work for me. The darkroom and I also don’t play well with each other….especially when it comes to holga film. I can get 35mm film on the reel in no time flat, well it took a HELL OF A LOT more time to get 120 film on a reel than I thought it would. Seriously I spent a good 30 minutes separating the paper from the film back and trying to get the film on the reel. The film kept rolling up and after awhile I couldn’t tell the paper from the film and was lucky that I got the film on the reel instead of the paper. Why am I so stuck in the digital time? I normally would be able to adapt to using different mediums of doing something. Just I think its my impatience that gets ahead of me…damned ADD and my inability to stay in the darkroom w/out getting annoyed…

After about 2 hours in the darkroom I got  ONE good print….okay a decent print, one that I am happy with. BTW…I developed the negatives last week, this week I attempted to do prints. Out of 2 rolls of film I only had about 5 negatives that I could work with…me being the retard that I am used 100 ISO film instead of 400 ISO… :( that was all I had and could find. If it were a nice day when I took the pictures I would have been fine, but I had no sunshine and there for–pretty much no pictures :( So this weekend I must reshoot. I got a roll of 400 ISO from my teacher so I should get something workable :) Also can’t wait till this weekend :) RENAISSANCE FAIR!!! CAN’T WAIT CAN’T WAIT CAN’T WAITTT!!!

Anyways…my one print…

I am really wanting to submit some photographs to my college’s Art and Design Week art show. April 10th is the last day to turn something in, and I keep wanting to chicken out. I have the three pieces I hope to get in, I just keep finding reasons not to do it. Seriously though–whats the worse that could happen? They won’t get picked, that is seriously the worse. The best? Well someone could see them, be impressed, and I somehow get a job (lol, okay thats a long shot, but heck its not impossible). I’m thinking that the LST picture, a black/white picture of my sister, and a picture of a tree…. 

Update 4/9/08: I did in-fact enter those three pictures. I’m just waiting to see if they got into the show >_< wish me luck!
